LIFECHURCH CORON. “I always dream to be a bodyguard,” Ptr. Ruben Servando stated. As a young man, he used to be a gang member, selling drugs but his life was changed when he came to know the Lord. All his life as a Christian, Ptr. Ruben Servando thought he will be just a ‘bodyguard’, someone who assists his senior leaders like Ptr. Rey Pactanac, Ptr. Boy Viterbo and Ptra. Vangie Baloloy and he really enjoyed helping them in whatever means possible. Despite his status, he learned to trust the Lord and thank Him for His goodness and never complain. After few years of serving, God gave him an opportunity to work as a missionary in Coron with Ptr. Boya Militante. Starting a mission work in Coron was not that easy. He was the one assigned in cleaning their rented place of fellowship used as a restaurant and bar at night. But still he knew his calling and he faithfully served the Lord and his leader. He combined hardwork with his light and funny personality and he was able to endure the odds. Finally, when Ptr. Boya left the church for some reasons, Ptr. Ruben felt the burden to take the leadership. With a blessing from Ptr. Ancho and after consulting the people in Coron, Ptr. Ruben, the once ‘bodyguard’ became the pastor of LifeChurch Coron. With no fear in telling in front of his audience, he said he was actually afraid of leading the church, because what does a “bodyguard” know? But with God on his side, he was able to lead the church in Coron. Trials came, but he saw God’s faithfulness especially in the area of finances. He told us his story with joy that he experienced they have to thank the Lord for the food even when there’s no food in their plates. But now they were able to build a church in Coron. God provided for them. They had acquired a lot for their church building and able to pay it within three months. They adopted G-12 or G-group in their Bible studies and finally built a school for kindergartens 1 and 2 which composed of 18-19 students.
Lessons Learned. Looking at the past, Ptr. Ruben realized that starting a church is easier than maintaining it. You have to make sure that God really called you there. “If you know and you know that God calls you, you will have the passion and sense of purpose to endure hardships and so fulfill your mission”.
